This is a question I get from a lot of parents. They feel completely stuck. “If I give my teen condoms, aren’t I telling them it’s fine to have sex?” “If I don’t give my teen condoms, what if she gets pregnant or one of them gets a disease?” On one hand, we want our kids to avoid the emotional and physical risks of this by just abstaining. On the other hand, we don’t want them to be unprepared and not have the tools they need to be safe. Pretty much everyone has sex eventually. And parents are never there when that decision is made.
Sex can be a life changing decision for anyone and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. It can have life-altering consequences. We have an obligation to teach our children, and to protect them as well.
So what should you do? Give your kids the condoms or tell them not to have sex?
