“Mom! I want…”
Do your kids have lots of wants? Do you sometimes despair of helping them appreciate what they already have? Wanting is an entirely normal function of childhood (just like saying “No” is an entirely normal function of parents!). Teaching kids to quiet the “I want” voice long enough to notice the “I already have” voice is an important part of raising children who can be happy as adults.
Thanksgiving requires gratitude.
We all want our kids to be grateful. To really be glad for what we have we have to notice what those things are. I was invited to join Kristine Sorensen on CBS and talk about how kids of different ages can truly understand what has been done for them, and what kindness, help and sacrifice look like.
