Can kids really “get” Thanksgiving?
Kids often have an easier time than adults at showing true thankfulness! The habits we need to build in them is taking the time to notice and express that gratitude. Gratitude matters, not just for it’s own sake, but because it will make kids more respectful, more responsible, and more resilient.
For kids in…
Preschool: We work on “Say thank you” all the time with kids this age. Don’t give up! As my 6 year old points out in the video, it takes a LOT of practice!
Elementary school: Ask them during dinner to notice 3 things that went really well that day, or 3 blessings in their lives. You do it too!
Middle school: As tweens start to notice the injustices of the world, ask them to figure out how one person lands in a bad situation and another doesn’t. This will lead them to the important life lessons about decision-making, but is also a great way to build gratitude as they see that some of life is just about your circumstance.
High school: Teens can show gratitude with their hands and feet. Getting involved in a service project and meeting people in different life situations from yours is about the best way I know to build true gratitude.

Love the video! Sounds like those boys really know how to “do” gratitude. Great tips as always.
