Setting Your Family Goals for 2016

It’s the new year and a time where people want to take charge of their lives and make some positive changes. Some of us are working towards losing weight or getting healthy, while others are setting professional goals. How many of you are working on your family resolutions?

To make setting your family goals for 2016 simple, here is a printable to help you out.

How to Use Your Printable

I picked a few areas where most parents would like to improve. For each section, choose a goal to work for during the month. Remember to make your goals SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, reasonable and timely). To help you out, I have a few tips for each of these areas.

Behavior

Are your kids perfect? If not, you probably have a behavior you would like to change. Here are some videos for the most common behaviors that parents need help with. If you want to learn more about changing behaviors, be sure to grab a copy of my book, “Get The Behavior You Want, Without Being the Parent You Hate”.

Saving

Is your family saving for a vacation or maybe a new tech device? Set your saving goals for the month and keep your family updated on the progress.

Giving

An important lesson to teach your kids is to give back to others. Whether your goal is to save money to donate to your favorite charity, donate items like clothing and toys, or even giving your time to volunteer. Record your goals here for a reminder throughout the month.

Don’t forget to choose one “other goal”. This could be to go screen-free once a week or have a family game night at least once a month.

At the end of the month when you make the next month’s goals, sit down and go over the past month. In the circle, make a smiley face if you achieved your goal or a frown face if you didn’t. If you didn’t achieve a goal that month, add it to your next month to work on.

Don’t forget to keep this goal sheet hanging in a central spot where everyone will be reminded of what they are working towards for the month. Good luck making and keeping your family goals!
