Happy 2023. I hope you’re feeling positively about the new year we are entering. In order to help with that – and build resilience – I have a question for you:
What’s something you were doing last year that was really good?
There is a lot of focus just now on New Year’s Resolutions – those opportunities we take (and 80% of the time bail on by Feb 1) to make a behavior change. I’m a big fan of behavior change, so if that’s your focus, wonderful.
But change uses our resilience. To balance out that drawing of strength towards change, I’d like you to build up as well. So pick one or two New Year’s Continuations. Like this. Pick one or more things from the list below that you’re going to keep doing from last year. No extra effort needed.
Which of these are you already doing and it’s working for you?
- Staying connected to someone important to you
- Growing your business
- Resting when you need it
- Eating food you like
- Pursuing a hobby
- Watching a TV show or tiktok or youtube that makes you laugh
- Brushing your teeth
- Spending time with the people who matter to you
- Engaging with social media that lifts your spirits
- Listening to music that improves your mood
- Keeping track of your belongings
- Telling someone you love them
- Appreciating something about your life the way it is
- _____________________________________ (your ideas here)
This will make it easier to approach any changes you do choose to make – and also the changes that land on you without your choosing them. You will build up your confidence and your energy by keeping up with something good and also congratulating yourself for what you’re already doing.
Hit reply and let me know your New Year’s Continuations!
All my best,
Dr. G
