Do bad things happen every day? (after hearing about the tornado in Missouri)
Oren (age 4), in Pittsburgh, PA
A: They do, Oren. The world is so big, and there are so many possibilities of things that can happen, that some bad things happen every day. And now that so many places have computers and TV cameras, we hear about a lot of it.
But you know what? Amazing things happen every day too! The world is so big, and there are so many possibilities of things that can happen, that miracles and wonders and trips to the park and ice cream cones happen every single day. Let’s get on the computer together and look for some amazing news from yesterday.
And the greatest part of all of this? More amazing things happen because of the bad things. Now that so many people have computers and radios and TVS, and can hear about the bad things, more people can help.
Just like you, lots of people feel sad or worried when they know people are hurt or scared. Just like you, they want to help and the really amazing part is, they do!
People can send money or food, or go and help. People can pray, write letters, or learn more about what to do if a tornado happens near them so they will be safe.
Let’s get on the computer and look for ways people are already helping. If you want, we can help too.
