To say I’m passionate about resilience in an understatement. I’ve travelled all over the world speaking about resilience and how we build it in ourselves, our kids and our companies. The funny thing is, a lot of people don’t even realize what resilience is or that it’s something you can learn.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. So do you feel like you are “tough”. How quickly do you recover from difficulties?
Lately we have been seeing all of the bad news on TV, all of the sadness, struggles and disease. It’s hard to see past all of it and it can wear on ones mental and physical well-being. Those who are resilient will be able to face these challenges and rise from them. So, are you worried if you aren’t resilient enough or that your resilience is already fixed or set?
You are wrong! Research shows that that ability resilience in individuals has somewhere between a 20 and 40% genetic component – meaning innate nature. How you were raised in what you do the impacts the other 60 to 80% of your results.
