There are many ways to teach your kids responsibility. For parents who are are taking care of a child, especially an older child who takes critical meds, like insulin, helping your kids to be responsible for their health is of utmost importance. It can also be one of the most challenging things to do.
It’s developmentally normal for kids and teens to think nothing can hurt them. They may feel frustrated that they can’t do things like their friends or have to take medicines or make sacrifices that their friends don’t have to make. The easiest solution in the child’s mind is to not take the meds, but what some don’t realize is the full extent of the implications it has on their health when they do so.
