If you’ve been hanging out around here at all, you know I think resilience is the most important tool we can give our children. The biggest obstacle in a child’s life often happens if they wander off or get separated. Rather than thinking that we must only be diligent so that never happens, teach resilience by preparing kids for what to do if it does! And make sure they ALL know your cell phone number.

When teaching kids to “stay put” when they are lost you also mention for them to go and “Look for oa list of people. This contradicts when you said in the first directive. Please advise. Should they go look for these folks after a certain amount of time has passed??

Dear Gena, thanks for pointing out the confusion! I mean for kids to stay as close to where they were “lost” as possible, but to look for trustworthy adults who can help them, in the same area where they were.
