Have you ever heard the expression “As sure as the sun rises and sets…” to describe something predictable? I’m writing to you from a plane just a little after sunset on March 1stand the strangest thing has happened. The sun rose again. And in the west this time!
We took off after sunset, but flew up high enough that the sun seemed to rise again over the (western!) horizon. It’s been up again for about half an hour and the pilot assures us that we will see it set a second time today just before we land. I’m lucky to be on the correct side of the plane to witness this and it’s startlingly beautiful to see this unexpected vision.
How are you? I hope it’s been a good transition from February to March for you and your purpose. I know we like to lean on January 1 as a New Start Opportunity but our brain chemistry actually changes much more in spring time than in the middle of winter. So for everyone in the Northern Hemisphere, our brains are actually getting primed for a much more effective clean slate.
It’s two sunrises in one day that really made me think about it – the coming spring is a brand new chance to…
- Consider your goals
- Set your priorities to match those goals
- and choose a new action or two to take to help you succeed
That’s right, January does not have a lock on resolutions. Not only that! As spring hits and days lengthen, you have neurochemistry on your side. Your brain will be looking for growth and new possibilities and will have new energy to apply to those things.
I think I’m going to recommit to going outside everyday for at least 30 minutes (and back and forth to my car does NOT count). What might you do with this “second sunrise” of 2023? Comment and tell me?
All my best,
Dr. G
