Two questions for you today:
- Want more joy? Me too.
- Got a phone? Me too!
Here’s how you can get #1 from #2:
Change any or all of these three things in your phone to make your heart happier.
- Change your “wallpaper” like this: find a picture that makes you smile, or laugh, or sigh in the good way. Go to “settings” on your phone and then find “wallpaper” or “lock screen” and change it to that picture. Every single dang time you pick up your phone you’ll see that! If you don’t currently have a picture you love, go to “themes” and find something that pumps up your dopamine or oxytocin (beautiful nature, cuddly animals, risky heights, you do you).
- What’s a favorite song? One that makes your hips start to move or brings a smile to your face or touches you in some way you love? Find that online (on your phone) and download it to be your ringtone. This is NOT as hard it as it seems. And if it’s baffling you have two tried-and-true options. Watch a youtube video “How to make my favorite song my ring tone on an (IPhone, Android, whatever you’ve got) or ask someone younger than you to do it for you.
- Add an app (yes ADD!) that makes you laugh. It might be
- 9GAG or IFunny or LOLPics – all apps that show you hilarious pictures
- Talking Tom – a cat that lives in your phone that you can feed, tickle, talk to
- The Onion – a parody “news” source
- Damn You Autocorrect or LastNightsTexts – both inappropriate and hilarious
That’s right – your phone does at times drain your resilience and cause you stress. So turn its incredible powers to good and add some joy! Joy builds your resilience.
What do you do with your phone that makes you happy?
All my best,
Dr. G
