For a great tool on creating boundaries while working from home, check this out!
Recently I spoke to a very large group of direct sales specialists, about creating good boundaries while working from home. Many people long to work from home, and to “be their own boss.” But these parents spoke of conflict.
One man succinctly said “I started this business to live life on my own terms. Now I’m beholden to this business 24/7 in a way I never was to a regular job.”
There are great reasons to go into business for oneself. For financial freedom, flexibility, and a boss who understands the needs of your family, working at your own pace can be the best possible world. Also, it is a great example for our kids to see us each day as we set goals, respond to a changing environment, and demonstrate for them the work ethic we hope they will copy.
The conflict, though, is clear. When you’re the boss (or the only employee!) it can feel impossible to take any time away.
No one goes into business for themselves, hoping to work 365 days a year. Is that the work ethic we want to model for our children?
When working from home, we need to take personal time. Sick days still happen. And vacations are crucial.
To show you that I really mean it, I’m taking this next week off for a vacation with my guys! Please keep sending questions, and I’m sure I’ll check in on Facebook or Twitter once or twice (it’s an addiction, try not to judge).
What do you do to take personal time for yourself and your family?
See you next week, everybody!
